A Wish for You, A Wish for Me
Dee, who cares for her husband with Alzheimer’s disease, recently wrote a poem to honor and encourage other family caregivers. She gave us permission to share it and we hope it lifts you up.
A Wish for You, A Wish for Me
For Those of Us on A Precious Journey
A Tribute to You as You Care for Your Loved One with Alzheimer’s
For all who love and know so
For all who are patient but don’t feel so
For all who are brave but don’t think so
This is for you, a wish.
You wait and trust and learn and try
You attend and guide and breathe and cry
You watch and wait and realize
The changes transpiring before your eyes.
Because for now your loved one’s “here”
Next minute’s encounter is over “there”
You wonder to yourself, “Where, oh, where?”
So, my friend, my wish for you is beyond measure
That your precious journey becomes a treasure.
Please know the sweetness of your love and care
Will meet your dear one anywhere.
Sharing kindred thoughts and a prayer,
For all who have this journey to share.
