Alzheimer’s Family Center (AFC) is one of Orange County’s most trusted resources for families living between the promise of a cure for dementia and the daily reality of caring for a memory-impaired loved one at home.
Mission: To improve the quality of life for families challenged by Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia through services tailored to meet individual needs.
Vision: To be the premier provider of innovative programs and services dedicated to compassionate, individualized care that improves the lives of individuals and families living with dementia.
Our Story
- AFC was founded in 1980 by Dr. Dan Sands, a young psychologist with a pioneering vision to encourage happier and healthier days for older adults affected by memory loss. Five years later, AFC became one of California’s first Alzheimer’s Day Care Resource Centers, as the program grew into a state-of-the-art, dementia-specific center affiliated with the Hoag Neurosciences Institute.
- In 2014, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) granted AFC the “Excellence in Care” distinction for meeting high standards in safety and security, staff training, activities, interpersonal communication, and meetings clients’ physiological, functional and social needs.
- Today, hundreds of patients enjoy a variety of cognitively stimulating and engaging activities in a safe, loving environment.
