AFC Embraces the Latest Technology as Robin the Robot Joins the Team

Alzheimer’s Family Center has expanded its patient-focused technological repertoire with the addition of Robin the Robot. Standing 4 feet tall with a sleek, eco-friendly body and expressive round eyes, Robin makes the rounds throughout AFC, interacting with patients, greeting staff and delighting everyone it meets.

Robin is equipped with autonomous navigation that enables it to wander freely around the facility. Robin remembers the names of patients and staff alike and can initiate conversations in several different languages. It can play music and play trivia with patients, providing a warm and life-like interactive experience.

The benefits of Robin’s capabilities are numerous: Robin helps to improve our patients’ cognitive functioning, lower their depression symptoms, improve their mood, engage them in helpful physical activity that boosts their quality of life, and increases their overall wellbeing by utilizing evidence-based interventions. Robin augments the already robust programming AFC offers to dementia patients at all stages of the disease.

“Robin has been a great addition to our staff,” says Joanna Richardson-Jones, Chief Executive Officer. “Part of our mission is to provide innovative approaches to care. We are delighted to offer this robotic technology to our patients.”
